The Wastewater Division is responsible for collection of all wastewater and its transmission to the wastewater treatment plant.  This service includes the operation, maintenance, and repair of all sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations connected to the wastewater collection system.

The Wastewater Division strives to protect the health of the citizens of Sanger by reducing sanitary sewer overflows and proper cleaning up of sewage spills.  Employees inspect and monitor over 300 miles of wastewater infrastructure on a continual basis to prevent blockages and sewer overflows.

Wastewater leaves your home from sinks and shower drains, washing machines, dishwashers and commodes and enters the City's sanitary sewer system.  A vast network of underground piping as well as six sewage lift stations enable the wastewater to reach the City's treatment facility.

Citizens' experiencing sewer backup problems should contact the Public Works Wastewater Division before contacting a plumber.  Wastewater Division personnel will investigate and determine if the problem is in the city main or on the customers side of the line.  If the problem is in the city main, city crews will resolve the problem.  If it is determined the problem is on the customer's side, the resident will be notified and advised to contact a plumber.

MOIST WIPES are not flushable! CLICK HERE to learn important information on items that should not be flushed down your toilets.

FATS, OILS AND GREASE can cause sewer back ups.  CLICK HERE for information on alternative ways to dispose of these items.  Flammable materials might cause the system to explode.  Corrosive material, like acid, may eat holes in the system and cause a sewage spill.  Restaurant grease or other cooking oil and byproducts may cause blockage of the system, resulting in clogs, backups and spills.  Don't risk it!  Grease clogs create clogs that can cause the sewer to back up into homes and places of business.

LEAVE THE MANHOLES COVERED Manholes are covered and bolted for the protection of our sewer system and our citizens.  Please do not tamper with or remove manhole covers.  Removing a manhole cover can be a deadly mistake!  Manholes can contain poisonous gases that can lead to serious illness or death.

Clean-outs for your home service lines are located in front of your home.  The clean-out is a single or double white pipe sticking out of the ground.  Please make sure your clean-out(s) are visible, accessible, and capped.  Citizens can contact the Wastewater Division and request a sewer line clean-out cap to replace lost or damaged caps.  The clean-out caps are provided to our citizens at no charge.

The Wastewater Division has an employee on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  If you need assistance after regular business hours, please call the Wastewater Department at 940-453-9973
